At Meadows Dental Group, we’re one of the few dental offices in the Denver metro area to offer three types of sedation dentistry:
Laughing Gas / Nitrous Oxide
Laughing gas, more formally known as nitrous oxide, has been in use in dentistry since the 1840s. This type of sedation makes you feel relaxed, and perhaps giggly. We can administer nitrous oxide for patients who have dental anxiety and/or would like to avoid Novocain.
Oral Sedation / Conscious Sedation
Oral sedation dentistry, ironically, is also known as both “conscious sedation dentistry” and “sleep dentistry.” Both descriptions are accurate. You take a pill and “sleep” through your dental appointment, though you’re actually conscious the entire time. At the end of the appointment, you’ll feel as if no time has passed and have little memory of the treatment. During your visit, we monitor your blood pressure, oxygen levels, and pulse to ensure your safety.
IV Sedation Dentistry
With this type of sedation dentistry, a nurse anesthetist with more than 25 years experience hooks up an IV to your arm and administers general anesthesia. This type of sedation dentistry is often used for tooth extractions, restorative work, cosmetic procedures, and/or for people who suffer from extreme dental anxiety. The entire time you’re in the dental chair, we monitor your pulse, oxygen levels, and blood pressure to make sure that you’re safe.
Dr. O’ Leary and Dr. Peppler are both experienced sedation dentists who understand dental anxiety and have gentle approaches.
